You’ll need carts to rent to guests and carts for your staff to get around and perform essential maintenance duties. We call this collection of golf carts a fleet, but you may find yourself wondering how many golf carts do you need in your fleet to make it work.

Minimum Fleet Requirements

If you have three or four golf carts for your staff to use, we won't refer to this as your fleet. By definition, a fleet consists of 10 or more golf carts. You may use these carts for different purposes, but if you own, operate, lease, and control 10 or more carts for your business, you can consider it a fleet.

Traditional Fleet Sizes

Many professional golf courses follow a few simple guidelines when figuring out how many golf carts they need in their fleet. For example, one common policy is to have 72 golf carts in a fleet on a professional golf course. The logic behind this number is that it allows your course to have two carts on each tee and two on each green at any given time.

Other Factors To Consider

If you operate a smaller golf course or similar business and don’t have the budget to have 72 golf carts ready to rent out, there are other factors to help you narrow things down. Take a look at your annual reports and have one cart for every eight paying members. The national average for many golf courses is between 50 and 55 golf carts in a fleet. It's perfectly okay to start with a smaller fleet and add more as necessary, and it is better for your business than buying or leasing a lot of golf carts that no one is renting.
